Most people focus on training movement; Sit, down, come, fetch etc.  How many spend time on training to be still and calm?

Teaching a dog the PLACE command or a DOWN/STAY. Which means the dog has to stay there until released, regardless of distractions.

It's a big ask, but a worthwhile training goal if you have a dog that you struggle to control. A dog that learns to have good impulse control can carry that skill over into lots of other behaviours. It can have a dramatic effect on behaviour.

Dogs that are reactive for example, are not able to control their impulses in the presence of their particular triggers. If that same dog learns to control their impulses in a different setting, it very often carries over into this one. It makes changing their reactive behaviours much easier to change.
